Ivy Walker was stopped at 18:35 on 2009-06-04 at a speed trap on Route 104 in New Hampton. The officer, Christopher M. Hogan, ran her license, and arrested her when he discovered that she had a warrant out in Rhode Island. Sergeant George C. Huckins was called for backup and inventoried the truck prior to impounding it; her pistol and two allegedly fake inspection stickers were seized.
The Rhode Island complaint alleges welfare fraud, obtaining money under false pretenses, and filing false documents with public officials (all presumably related). In New Hampshire, she has now been charged with new motor vehicle violations for a suspended registration and fake inspection stickers.
She was held overnight at the Belknap County Jail, and not allowed to communicate with anyone on the outside world. While being processed, she refused to fingerprint, answer any of their questions, or sign any of their forms, citing various constitutional and statutory protections against self-incrimination, and due process. Ivy explained to each of the officers that dealt with her, in as gentle and friendly a manner as she could, that she wasn’t trying to be uncoöperative, but that she knew that she had this-or-that right against each of the things they attempted, and therefore she kindly refused. Amazingly, they actually accepted this.
The arraignment was held on 2009-06-05 in Laconia District Court.
